Originally by: EdwardNardella I suspect this is the appropriate forum as ships and fittings is for discussing balance and such.
I'm bored, if you are to please read and provide feedback.
I invite everyone who is Canadian or shares Canadian heritage to use this tag:
▌*▐
I take pleasure in finding creative and relevant names for my ships. As many others I have decided to follow a theme, some choose movies a certain actor was in, historical figures or sports cars. Me: I decided that all my ships would have cultural, natural and historical Canadian references. I would like to hear from others who do the same either with Canada or their own countries. I would also like feedback on my own ship names.
When I choose a ship name I try to take as many variables into account as possible; I believe that multiple meanings behind a name are what make it memorable and favorable. The variables I consider are as follows:
Ship race: Amarr: Religion Caldari: Birds Gallente: Insects and ? Minmatar: Canine, Norse lore
Ships original name
Ship type
Ship role
Ship importance: Cap vs BS vs Cruiser vs T2 vs T3
I try to find names from my nations history and culture that fit as many of these variables as possible. I find it interesting that many of these names would also be appropriate for Russian or Alaskan ships, but the ▌*▐ tag compensates for this. In my names anything northern or cold counts as Canadian :P
Finally I should note that I throw out logic and accuracy for awesomeness.
So without further delay here is a list of some of my favorite ship names remember; I want your feedback!
Tengu: ▌*▐ - Tundra Swan Tundra: I like Tundra because it is assoiated with desert areas, kind of unexplored-ish and thus W-Space-ish which is IMO the best place for a T3 Swan: T3 ships are "beautiful" in most ways besides looks, Caldari: Bird
Zephyr: ▌*▐ - Bluenose The Bluenose is a Canadian sail ship; need I say more?
Manticore: ▌*▐ - Snowy Owl Snowy: Canada Owl: Stealth, Caldari: Bird
Nemesis: ▌*▐ - Pine Beetle The pine beetle is an insidious insect that has invaded forests in western Canada
Falcon: ▌*▐ - Peregrine The Peregrin Falcon is a somewhat Canadian bird
Scorpion: ▌*▐ - Candu Aurora Candu: A Canadian designed nuclear reactor Aurora Borealis polar electromagnetic phenomena; Electronic Warfare I am not 100% happy with this name, anyone got suggestions and feedback for the Scorpion name?
Hyena: ▌*▐ - Husky Husky is a Canine typically found in northern regions.
Drake: ▌*▐ - Loon Loon is a bird (Caldari) featured on Canadian currency, it can also be used to refer to someone who is not of sound mind. My drake is fit with a DCU and an AB for tank, rest is gank.
Deimos: ▌*▐ - Niagra Niagra Falls, really big, impressive waterfalls half of which are in Canada. Blasters, massive overwhelming amounts of damage dealt quickly.
Firetail: ▌*▐ - Avro Arrow Really fast Canadian rocket plane.
I also have some names that don't yet have ships:
Maybe Loki or Dramiel? ▌*▐ - Okichitaw Native Canadian martial art. Anyone have a second word to add to this mane?
Minmatar Sniper Ship: ▌*▐ - Timber Wolf Timber Wolf: A Canadian sniper rifle, (wolf: Minmatar)
Caldari Assault Ship or Interceptor ▌*▐ - Snow Bird Canadian fighter plane (bird: caldari)
▌*▐ - Ice Lynx ▌*▐ - Beaver (IMO need second word to be awesome) ▌*▐ - Goose (IMO need second word to be awesome)
So i get into trouble for posting that one of our loki's has a web fitted... and you post this?
